The sub woofer enclosure is finished!

The sub woofer enclosure is finished!

So last time we ended with the sides of the box being mounted and some filler applied. After that we got around to cut the enclosures roof and its holes for the sub woofer and aero port. Aero port is sized to be 6" with quite short runner, Also threw some acoustic insulation inside the enclosure hoping to deepen the bass.

The enclosure is made from 19mm mdf sheets, which are attached with wood glue and screws. The carpet is just off the shelf automotive interior carpet that glued on with spray glue.

Enclosures cost with out the sub woofer or amplifier is roughly around 200 €. This is completed box ready to install, and when you think about it. It´s not that pricey for quite large box that will fit nicely in the e36´s spare wheel well.

I´ll get to install it the next week so I will post some photos of the enclosure in it´s place with amplifier and sub mounted. Next in the list is rear hat racks enclosure modifications these will make there own post. I also need to wire the amplifier to the cars own head unit. I´ll use line converter from the front mid woofers to get the correct signal for the sub woofer. These lines will be routed at the same time I will upgrade the mid woofers to MDS´s 6" mids. Crossing my fingers they would fit with out too much hassle or modifications.

For the final closure of the subwoofer enclosure build I´ll give you some details for the box.

  • 19 mm MDF (floor, sides, roof, amp rack)
  • Black carpet for the whole box
  • 2 cans of spray glue for the carpet
  • speaker terminal
  • wood glue
  • 25 mm x 3 mm screws
  • Aero port 6"
  • 6 mm´2 speaker wire for the sub
  • heat shrink
  • wire sleeve black
  • fuse block and 150 amp fuse
  • 4 vibration dampners
  • wood filler

Enclosures inner capacity is roughly calculated to be around 40 litres. Inside height is 210 mm.

If anyone is interested to build one similar contact me and I´ll do a 3d modelling of my own enclosure and can provide advice if needed.
